The AI and Society meeting is an organisation which meets to discuss 'the influence of Artificial Intelligence on society'.

 

We aimed at approaching our discussion of society from various viewpoints such as Humanity,Philosophy, Economics , Law , Politics and Sociology.
 

We refer collectively to them as ‘HELPS’. Initial letters of Humanity, Economics, Law,  Political Science, Philosophy and Sociology.

It has been a long time since Japanese academics, with their traditional focus on specialist learning, have become interested in the consequences of Artificial Intelligence on Society. As an organisation, we feel that this is due to the fact that in the future AI will act possibly as a hub for a new ‘cross-cutting knowledge’.

 

Various people interested in Artificial Intelligence are participating in this study group, not only researchers, but also business people, bureaucrats artists and so on. We are hoping also for new business, policy plans and cultural  development opportunities, etc to be created from here.

AI社会論研究会は、「人工知能が社会に与える影響」について議論する会です。

 

 一口に「社会」と言いましたが、哲学（Humanity)、経済学(Economics)、法学（Law）、政治学(Politics)、社会学(Sociology)といった多様な観点からのアプローチを目指しています。

 

私たちはこれらを「HELPS」と総称しています。学問のタコツボ化が懸念されるようになってから久しいですが、人工知能をハブとすることによって、真に実りある領域横断的な知が可能になると思われます。人工知能は、遠くない未来に社会のあり方を劇的に変革させてしまうかもしれません。

 

あるいは、そうはならないかもしれませんが、HELPSの観点から人工知能を論じていくことの重要さは、今後増しこそすれ失われていくことはないでしょう。

 

最近、人工知能がブームだと言われていますが、ブームであろうとなかろうと重要なことは議論されるべきです。

 

特に日本では、欧米に比べるとこの手の学術的な研究が少ない現状があります。

 

当研究会がそうした研究を進める足がかりになればと思っています。

 

当研究会には、研究者だけでなく、ビジネスマンや官僚、芸術家に至るまで、人工知能に興味のある様々な人々が参加しています。ここから新しいビジネスや政策案、文化などが生み出されることをもまた願っています。
